OLD sony slim can't take more than 256mb ram?!?

Hey,

so I have this pcg-z505js, simply a slimline notebook, or whatever they're called. Anyway, it's got a p-III, and runs on 100mhz RAM (PC-100).

Now, by chance, I have a 256mb ram stick of pc-133 lying around. There's no way it's not compatible, right? However, internet stores claim its max memory is 256mb, and its already got 128mb. And here's the thing- completely opened, I can only find ONE ram slot, and thats empty! So if I add my 256 stick, at the startup, it says something I cant read, because the screen is cracked severely, and a new one will arrive in a week... but i think i can read something along an error and windows will attempt to repair it, or something.

So here's the question- is it possible a laptop can take only a certain amount of RAM? And does anyone have a clue where the original 128mb ram stick is? On the other side of the mobo?!? Argh.............. thanks

Franz

try an external monitor and see what it exactly says when you put the other stick in.

some motherboards will have a ram socket on each side of it and others have them both right next to each other.

Some motherboards even have on-board memory...
