Will this configuration run smoothly?

Ok, I'm a private tutor and I really need a laptop that I can record my sessions with. It's very important to me that my laptop will run smoothly.

Will this configuration run smoothly? I'm emphasizing it because I remember when my Mom got her laptop with "Vista" it was sooo freakn slow, lol. I was laughing so hard bc I kept telling her not to get Vista. I'm not sure if she had 1 or 2 gb of Ram, but would 2gb be enough or do I need to get 4gb? Of course, if I go 4gb then I will need to upgrade my OS. I don't care about anything else, such as battery life bc there is always a plug near by etc.

Thanks!

Your mom's laptop may not run smoothly because of the software on it, and I don't mean Vista, every bit as much as the memory!

Many new laptops perform sluggishly due to a lot of the "bloatware" that is installed on these systems.

At any rate, based on the configuration that you gave, it should run absolutely fine, especially with 2gb ram.

Although going to say 4gb will give you a little added performance, the drop off after 2gb is pretty steep...IMHO, 2gb is just fine. Even if you do go to 4gb, going to a 64 bit OS will yeild very mild, if any performance gains.

Yes, a 32bit OS will not use all of that 4gb, however, a 64bit OS will incur some of it's own memory overhead, almost negating the difference of that last 1/2 gb or so of usable ram.

The "advantages" of a 64bit OS won't really manifest so much until you go to say 8gb ram...which most laptops will not do yet anyway.

BTW, this is being typed on a Pavillion notebook with a TL-58 cpu, and it runs smooth as can be...

I think a 12.1 screen is too small but 2 gb is fine and everything else looks good.
