Upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64 bit - How?

Thread Starter
I have an Inspiron e1705 64 bit laptop that has 32 bit OEM version of Vista. I'd like to upgrade to 64 bit but I couldn't find a link that will let me download this upgrade... Does anyone know where I can get the upgrade? I thought it was a free patch from Microsoft .

I've searched these forums and I can't seem to find any help.

Can anyone please tell me what the easiest way to obtain the 64 bit upgrade? I should also mention that my warranty support expired on this laptop last month .

TIA - Grecinos

You have to reinstall vista with the 64-bit version (that means you need a copy of the OS). You can't just upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit via download or patch, you need to start the OS from scratch.

You maybe able to request a 64 bit OS Upgrade from MS, there is a link for it on thier site. You enter in your KEY and it will tell you if you can.

Here is the link

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...a/default.mspx

more than likely you will have to purchase the 64 bit OS.

I got my disc from Dell by asking for it.

Thanks for the link. Fortunately I had a seperate, non-oem, copy of Windows Vista. It cost me about $10.
