I pressed The Dell Media Direct Button & Now XP Won't Start ;-( - Page 4

Hey All

DELL VOSTRO 1500

shipped date 11/27/2007 win xp

never used media direct but hit that button a lot by accident

IDell shows it came with media Direct 3.5

Onboard intel video not the Nvidia like I ordered and payed for !!! If video makes a diff

well I replaced Hard Drive fresh install of win xp (not any dell disks) downloaded drivers after re-install of windows online from dell

no seperate partitions all one

have some issues tho

for awhile i had to keep shutting down vostro with power button held because laptop seemed very slow to shutdown or seemed frozen

now after all seemed to be good the computer only BOOTS from this media direct button Never will it start/shutdown from the actual power button?????

yes every time i have to boot from this button I get the "unable to launch the media experience...." and I can press this button anytime while using computer but all i get is the same error box "unable to launch..."

I AM ABLE TO do everything on laptop it seems. Except My Cute tv usb video external seems to freeze often now while in use...I am sure that is a diff issue just happen at same times

I am afraid if I disable quickset in Sys config windows boot settings that disabling this will render laptop useless completely ?

Or possibly the power button just DIED?

Seems strange tho especially after fresh install new HDD and after pressing the media direct button now these issues even tho there is nothing installed regarding media direct.

Thanks

Windows is up to date? Have you looked at the DMA settings for the drive controller is Devices Manager?

cheers ...

Thanks yes all is good but as I can only boot using the media direct button I don't even get the option to get into bios now ? Unless there is a trick to it now ? I assume maybe something in bios to check for "power/acpi button disabled ?" again no conflicts in DNA setting tgat I can see.

I'll try on weekend to pop in win xp disk to see if by hitting the md button created a partition 1 or such thus why it'll only boot into win xp this way ? Just a thought. Also maybe check laptop settings power options which I see nothing unusual there
