When will AW include Montevina and the 9XXX's in m15x and m17x

I noticed today that Sager and others launched their platforms with Montevina and the Nvidia 9XXX series of cards.

How long do you think until AW follows suit?

This is not meant as a dig at AW.
I know that AW wants to try to minimize the issues with any new components.

Once I have the cash or my current laptop dies, I will be getting an m15x or m17x myself

I have a feeling it will show up in their next line up of laptops...

Do you think that they will keep the chasis of the m15x and m17x or do you think will they come with new chasis as well?

I hope they keep the m17x chassis design as I am planning on upgrading once the Montevina and 9800 GTX are available. The question is, could it be delivered before I go back to Virginia Tech on August 25th?

I don't think so, IMO.
But you never know.

If past history is any indication (With AW it usually is) it took them well over 6 months to start shipping a santa rosa laptop from its inception, assuming they stick w/ the current chassis(who knows) that time may be a bit shorter, but dont count on it. Dont expect to see monte in AW untill LATE 08 early 09.... assuming they dont just skip this platform altogether as they have done in the past.

I can hear the market speak now.....either:
"We are the industry leader and first to market!"
or
""We have rigorous testing standards and certifications other companies dont, thats why we are late to market."

Either way, it didnt stop the 15x from having a few major issues...*coughdownclockingcough

but I digress

it all depends if the new motherboards will fit in the chassis of the m15x and 17x ...

Mark the day! Today is when most everyone who had a Monte Product announced one (well except those who did the day before).

Let the binary clock begin.

Im so gunna resurect this thread when AW actually starts shipping a monte product for historical sake. Hopefully sooner than later.

I find it odd that with most major and even alot of boutique vendors announcing Monte products, the 3 largest domestic laptop producers (Dell/AW, HP/Compaq/Voodoo, Acer/Gateway) were next to silent with only a few business class laptops rolled out among the three, and no ones marquee lines recieving the Monte treatment....hmmmm

According to Intel this release is not a "true" Montevina, it has most of the elements that make it that chipset but needs a few more to make it a true one. Therefore this chipset isnt even ready for anyone looking for the Monty now. They are not even branding it until it does, so for now its a T or P prefix.

The "Full Monty" will be out in August, this is just a teaser for the Back To School crowd who the majority dont know the difference from a Monty and a hole in the ground.

Ugh this may mean ev en longer delays from AW......

I was all set to buy teh 15x when it comes in black skullcap, but I just dont think I could justify such an investment now without a monte upgrade path.

BTW there are a few companies already taking orders for (Semi apparently) monte refreshes already with ship dates only a couple weeks out......

So if you waited this long you can was a few more weeks, and then if you are even more anxiety pron the Nehalem comes out this fall.

Why when a nice monte can be mine in less than a month

Sorry guys, but at this time, we do not have plans to release Montevina for these platforms.

Thanks!

Important word "these", and the wait and see continues.

Arch, since you obviously know that AW isn't ever the fastest to market and have repeatedly stated that it takes months for AW to come out with new chipsets/platforms how are you expecting to buy an AW? Maybe I'm adding this up wrong or jumping to conclusions, but wouldn't the next chipset announcement come before Alienware ever has the previous model to market? Or are you just looking for that slim window where enough customers have purchased the product and announced it has no problems, while the next chipset or platform revision still hasn't been announced?

I'm not flaming, or trying to start anything here. Just wondering what you expect between Alienware's slow-to-market trends and your want for the latest & greatest.

Who wants a Monty Python processorizer anyways?

Speaking of AW upper tier mobile Nvidia GPU’s (x700+) I cannot recall a single time in recent history they offered an entire series GPU upgrade. m9700 & m9750 were all at the 7x series and cannot be upgraded. The only notebook I know of every offered by alienware that changed GPU series but kept the same chassis was the m5500 – m5550.

I know the m7700 did offer the 6800 – 7800 with (what I believe was) the same chassis (and the ATI one) but that’s was CLEVO and they are no more with AW.

Personally, I would not hold my breath on the m15/17x ever offering the 9xxx GPU, sounds like their next line of notebooks will offer it. I’d check out the ODM for the best possible updates.

Thanks James!!!!!!

It's rare any AW employee was able to give such a definitive answer!
Usually said employee is not in a critical loop were he would be informed of such plans and even if he was he would not be allowed to disclose the companies plans publicly. In that sense this response feels a bit odd.
