Hello
I have been pulling my hair our trying to figure out what is wrong with my m17x and blu-ray playback with powerdvd, but I am unable to find anything out, and alienware support is not helping much.
we replaced the drive once already.

I am wondering, if there is anyone else here that has received their m17x with a blu-ray player, (BC-5500A) and are you able to play movies like "Spiderwick Chronicles" as an example.

Any help will be appreciated.

P.S.
Do you need to have different codec installed so you can play different movies (store purchased movies that is, nothing ripped etc.)

So what's wrong? Is it not plying movies? Not reading discs?

i dont see the error.

but i think i see what might be your problem. I just got my BD drive today for the m15x (ya, installing that baby is fuuuuun. cant believe how small those screws are)
anyway, my PowerDVD clearly reads BD edition. the software you have loaded looks like what i had before the drive (for standard DVD but has the blu-ray icon)

try opening your Alienware Hive find the DB player and the software should be under it. I'm using PowerDVD_BD_8CH_7[1].3.3516.0 and so far so good. I have not tried them all yet but i know Pirates 1 was the first movie released that had BD java problems, it works fine for me.

I plan on testing all of mine (i have like 15) later today maybe tomorow, ill let you know.

i'd double check the version of power dvd you're running. I have 0 problems with any blu-ray on the BC-5500A with my m15x. Check your hive.

www.dell.com, register it, goto drivers download page and get the firmware for your drive, flash it with the included program/instructions and see if that helps, it helped mine a bunch, had same prob as yours. its worth a try no?
