M1730 Processor upgrade help

Im thinking about upgrading my processor in my M1730 from my 2.4 to somthing with a little more mustard.

I am concidering the X9000.... Will this work with my m1730.... also does 1730 have potential for 64 bit.... Im lost as I have been out of the loop on this machine for a while.

I would go for 8800's instead of the CPU.

How are the 8800's compared to the 8700's... in gaming

I would like to get an x9000 as I have a friend whos selling them at a great price

Let me know if you want to unload your old CPU. I am looking to upgrade another lappy I have.

If your looking at improving Gaming performance then I agree get the Sli 8800 GPU's, you would see a significant increase in gaming performance, Upgrading the CPU will only provide minor improvement in comparison

yeah, your money would be better spent on the video card.

Well im looking for good processor for movie decoding and such.... plus i can get a x9000 for 298.99 with intel warranty

and the dual 8800's are 1100.00....hmmmm

the x9000 is a lot cheaper but it really won't help you much in games. also the cpu is a real pain to change in comparison to the gpu. also most of the screws in the m1730 have lock tight blue applied.

It's actually not that hard to change the CPU, granted you need to remove the motherboard as it is on the bottom. BUT, it's not that hard....

As far as gaming, I'd get the 8800's off of e-bay. I just sold on for $700. The 2.4 is fine for decoding and what not. I do alot of that myself and my 2.5 is great.
