Will a wireless 1505 draft N fit, and speed up, my D420?

I have a 21 month old D420 with a 1.06Ghz single core Yonah, 1.5GB RAM, WinXP, and 1390 wireless card, which is dog slow. Will the 1505 Draft N fit and make transfers faster through my existing 54G Linksys router? Thanks.

(EDIT ...or for that matter, what about the Intel 4965. It uses 3 antennas whereas the 1390 and 1505 only use 2, but perhaps I could use one on the WWAN Broadband antennas that is not in use.

Anybody?

It won't, you're going to need to buy a new router too in order to get the faster speed. Your best option would be to get a 5 port gigabit switch and just plug the laptop in when you need to transfer a large file if you insist on doing it over the network.

i think what he's trying to tell you is that for Wireless N card to work effectively "faster" you got to have wireless N router, otherwise the max speed is limited by your card, router, and supplier.

Thanks guys. I had a Comcast repairman tell me the N routers sometimes don't play well with my Comcast cable modem, so I may hold off on that.

Do you think a 1490 or 3965 G card would be better than my 1390 at G speeds? It's just that my D420 is soooo slow on surfing, compared to my 2 yr. old M1710 (which is mega more powerful of course). Thx again.

it's not b/c of the wireless card, windows xp sp2 needs more than 512mb ram to run at a normal speed. since the ram are permenant, try using windows xp without sp2 or download a older version of xp and you should be ok. try a fresh installation. and the porn has got to go.

LOL! My "porn" on the D420 is msnbc.com and hotmail, but perhaps I'll give plain XP a try. Thx.

You can add memory to the D420. There's a customer-accessible socket on the bottom of the system. Takes up to a 1GB Module, you could even try a 2 in there to see if it'd work. That 512MB of RAM is hurting you more than anything. Single core really not so much.

I have 1.5GB of RAM. My original post, now edited, said 1.5MB which was misunderstood to be 512MB. I'm running XP with SP3. Some network tweaking with TCP Optimizer, as well as deleting the 6,800 cookies (!), has helped. Thx for everyone's input.
