Laptop Suggestiosn - Rock Laptops

Hey guys, its time for a laptop for me, as I'm off to uni in the next few months! (same old story). I'm looking for a gaming laptop but having a lot of problems. Had my mind set on an Alienware M15X (Great performance, good battery life in comparison with dedicated/integrated gfx etc, and looks amazing). However my father spoke to one of his friends who recommended I see a local computer shop about locating a laptop for me, and now he is saying about dell, and rock laptops.
How good are these rock laptops, any bad experiences/good experiences to share?
I see the performance specs on them look amazing, but also a little pricey too.
Dell obviously own alienware, and yet I find it just doens't compare to alienware on style/image and performance.
If anyone can help me out and point me in the right direction please do! lol!
The general hardware spec I looking for is:
2.8Ghz Processor
2 GB Ram
GeForce 8800 GTX
7,200 200gb Hard Disk (there abouts)

Thanks

They're in the UK, probably why we haven't heard of them.

If the company is local and can be relied upon, that might be your best bet if you can get a good deal. I know Dell's prices in other markets can be pretty steep compared to what they are in the US.

the m15x is the ONLY notebook your going to find with the 8800m GTX that is only 15" & can be set to get 3+ hours of battery.

Its also one killer rig.

I too never heard of Rock, but they dont offer 8800M GTX in any of their 15" notebooks.

Yeah thanks for all the coments guys. The 8800 gtx in the m15x with its 2 gfx cards for 3 hours worth of battery life is what sold it to me! Just this guy was saying "I can save you loads with same spec as alienware"....looks like he cant :P My birthday is next week so I'll probs order it then Excited to say the least! Thanks again

Jeez you don't need a 2.8 ghz processor unless you feel some desire to burn money. IMO if you need that much power just get a friggin' desktop and save the money for a solid used car or donate it to starving children...should be able to feed a few dozen for a year or two.

Haha yeah but I going to uni, so desktop is out of question. I realise 2.8ghz is over the top, so may substitute for a 2.6 to save some cash! Got a car atm, that'll be gone for uni too. So save the starving children it is

Actually you'd be surprised how many people bring desktops to their dorms and then have a small laptop for classroom work (even though I've never heard of anyone "needing" a laptop during class).

I didn't realise this, as I never been before. Could take my current alienware desktop with me, and then have one of those v.small and cheap asus lappies just for Microsoft Office. Thanks for the advice

be carefull of theft, having a 3-4k USD rig in a dorm at Uni, not such a good thing

be sure to buy a lock and lock it to something!

very true dorms are a haven of theft and loss... dont get screwed and make sure you keep your rig locked to something heavy and sold.

also for those wondering about rock, they have a very solid rep in the UK and seem to be a quality supplier based on what i have heard of them.

Yup yup yup, I have my laptop constantly locked up with a Kensington computer lock. The only problem is that some computers don't come with that port anymore....which is weird.
