Asmodeus- You are asking in a Sager forum. Most people are going to say go with the Sager. If you go post at the zd7000forums, everyone is going to say go with the HP.

Not assuming about playing games. Doesn't the video card assist in graphic design, video playback, windows general appearance, etc.?

You bought this at CostCo? On the Web? @ Costco.com? Didn't see it and I did not see it on the HP site. Please URLS for both of these.

Thanks
I customized mine direct from HP at www.hpshopping.com. Everything is still there, I just checked.

Here is the link to Costco: http://www.costco.com/frameset.asp?t...delkey=DN730AV

On both sites make sure you click on customize and not ready to ship.

LLLLLLET'S GET READY TO RUMBUUUUUUUHHHHHHLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael Buffer's legendary exclamation seemed appropriate, at this point.

Well, if the Go5700 isn't good enough to handle these than neither is the ati 9700. Seriously... it handles all that fine.

I guess I need to eat crow-pie here. That is a new link to HP for me and the CPU config is there.

OK, lets just HUMBLE the RUMBLE for the moment.

That link makes the configuration even more appealing.

I don't think it is a matter to argue over. The sager specs are better or equal in all areas except the screen. The HP is like having a Aston Martin car shell with a Kia engine. Nice to look at, but no performance.

Guess you missed G-Omaha's plea to tone things down, huh?

Just out of curiosity, have you ever used either notebook?

Ignorance is bliss. Saying no performance lends no credibility to anything you have said. And have you used both systems? I have.

Anyway, it all depends what you need. For me, the better screen is more important than an extra fps in a game or 2 seconds faster encoding a file. You have fun running benchmarks while I actually use my system for something productive.

yeah,

Sorry, disregard my post.

I've used the 8790. Now it looks like I have to get off my fat @ and go look at the HPs. Geeezzzzz, this is going to be difficult for a Sager Bigot; however, that is the screen (If it's any good) that I want and I might need to re-evaluate things here. Can't tell until I see what the "other side(s)" are really offering.

Whoever made the comment on "upgrading PC every month" and the memory on Video Cards have not a CLUE what they are talking about.

4 Pipelines NOT a bottleneck? And then saying 256 megabytes memory is actually USEFUL on a vid card? Have you DONE any research, SEEN any benchmarks?

I have the 8790 and tinkered with a friends lower spec HP.
By the way, I sent apology to flashram in private message.

Well it's obvious you aren't going to take my word on the screen quality. Anyway, no retail stores have the new screen on the floor yet. So unless you know someone that has one or you are willing to order one, it is going to be tough to see one in person.

You can check some of the pics I took in this thread: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=21396

and if you dig through this thread:

Still, nothing beats seeing it in person.

Flashram - It's a performance -v- pretty "type of thing". I want the RAID, hate the DVD+, and a few other things. Just don't know what the "true" +/-'s are for what I need (as opposed to what I want). The DVD cutting speed is a real plus; however, the +format is not universally compatible as the -format (from my painful experience). Nothing like cutting 50 DVD's that can't be read on a Family's vintage DVD player (back to the farm and re-do - at a loss to keep the customer and reference). Additionally, I don't want to have to upgrade memory,HDD, etc.. from the "get go" - real pain and not really economical. Not that I don't trust you, I just need to see some things "in person" to see if the screen offset all other differences. After all the screen is, IMHO, the most costly to upgrade of all components.

Well, it appears that cooler heads have prevailed, after all. No fair!!! I wanted to see some major a**-kickin' and name callin'!!!!

Just joking!

One of my favorite things about these forums is the passion and conviction everyone brings to the table...even when we get a little nasty about it!

I know, I was joking with you. The other things you mentioned, like I said earlier, it all comes down to what you need. For me the better screen was more important than RAID. I used dvd+r only before I got the zd7000, so it worked out great for me when the zd offered 4x dvd+r. I've yet to have any +r problems on any of my players. Also, I already had the 7200 rpm hard drive and extra memory, so upgrading them was no big deal.

Good luck.

Costco has 6 month return on computer purchases. 'Nuff said if you don't like it. Anyone else offer that?

flashram,

Does the ZD7000 have dual channel memory?

Is that a full sized number pad, with the enter key (and a few others) in the customary position on that machine?

'Tis one of the only tiny and insignificant issues I have with the NP8890. Will be certain to peruse this version of the ZD7000 when it finally makes it to retail stores.
