ASUS M6N and warranty

I called ASUS USA today (the special notebook number) to ask about warranty. Specifically, I asked them: "if I buy an M6N from an authorized reseller, and the reseller does NOT "survive" the warranty period, do I still have a warranty through ASUS?" The answer I got was quite vague. Since ASUS sells only the "barebones" parts (the shell, mobo, etc.) and not the CPU, memory, drives, etc. they don't warrant the complete systems.
So, what should I do...build the thing myself, or buy from powernotebooks or another reseller?? Your opinions, please, because this is the model that I have settled on, and now I don't know a.) where to get it from and b.) whether to buy it assembled or in pieces.
Thanks in advance for your input!

I was also looking to build the thing myself, until I ran across the warranty info on Asus site; should you choose to do that all bets are off as far as Asus is concerned. So that was the end of that idea for me, but since I had already priced the parts I can tell ya, with a good deal it doesn't cost a whole lot more to get the thing pre-assembled.

As for the issue of Asus stepping in if your vendor goes under, I'd venture to say that's entirely possible. The vendors have to go through Asus for that anyway I think... But either way you can definitely forget about them covering the WHOLE unit; all they're liable for in any case is the bare guts, not HD's, mem, ect.

Thanks, if it is the M6N (which it looks about 95 percent like it is) I am definately going pre-assembled. I agree, the small amount of money is not worth the hassle. I have my "Dell from hell" posted on EBAY this morning, and it already has bids, so, hopefully it will bring enough money to let it find a new home. I went and saw the eMachines M6809 tonight at Best Buy just to "confuse the issue" a pinch more. I really think that it is a tremendous value, especially after rebate, if not an amazing value. But, the overall build quality is not the same as the M6N. After seeing yours (thanks again), I would have to say that the "fit and finish" of the M6N is among the nicest I have seen. ASUS really did a pretty job indeed of piecing it together. It looks really top notch. Also after seeing your 15.1 without the gradient issue, I am torn between it and the 15.4. I was sure I wanted the 15.4, but now I don't know if I want a "squat" screen. I will surely play some DVD's but that won't be my main pasttime with the sytem. So, after I get the eMachine out of my mind, and sell my Dell next week, I will be ready to place an order.
However, after talking with ASUS today, I would be stunned and amazed if they "covered" a warranty for a defunct dealer.
Thanks again,
Andrew

Thanks, my Asus is blushing ;p And ya know it was funny, I had a job right after we met and as soon as I whipped the thing out the guy was SMITTEN:

Nice screen! How fast? How much? Where'd you get it? Why doesn't Best Buy stock it? What's a whitebook? Jeez it's so thin, and light, what's this port for? It's spooky-lookin! Wow... if Darth Vader had a laptop, this'd be it!

So my M6N has a prom date now I guess lol It was kinda hard to work with him constantly sidetracking like that but it made me feel all the better about my investment, and that last observation just slayed me; I renamed it 'Darth' accordingly ;]

if you take your m6 to the prom, not only would you be the BIGGEST dork, but I think you would get a lot of attention..... proportable told me if I did anything different with my laptop, they were looking to make a customer picture page...... I think they would love to see that.

LOL I'm not gonna take it, I meant HE would be willing to prolly ;p But anyway neither of us are in HS anymore so just a figure of speech.

But what's this about doing different things with it and taking pics? Define 'different' and who wants em?
