XPS m1710 t7600g

i just received my scratch and dent xps m1710, yah that's right 1710, not 1730 - hehe

i bought it b/c of the t7600g processor & b/c i prefer the m1710 over the m1730 looks wise

it is pretty dinged up, even for a scratch and dent and the bluray drive that came w/ the system works sometimes but then media direct cannot detect an optical device - does media direct 3.0 not work w/ bluray?

it came w/ a 1 year warranty, i could not bite the bullet to pay 220 for an extended warranty for years 2 and 3 - does anyone have any experience for extending warranty over the phone for cheaper than 220?

thanks!

Usually the warranty is less at the purchase time, I would definitely pay the extra $ 220.00 for 2 more years of coverage

Time to get the Bluray drive replaced under warranty - just paid for the extra warranty plus some BTW lol

i can't believe you purchased the xps 1710. the 7950gtx and 7900gtx video cards have terrible overheating problems as well as memory issues I would return it and get a 1730!

Firstly, the guy explained why he didn't get a 1730. Secondly, the 1710 is a kickass machine as is. I've got one spec'd to the limit and it's the best PC I've ever owned. No desire to get a 1730 (and I could have given I got a screaming deal on the 1710 because the 1730 was about to be released).

To each his/her own. I never heard about these overheating issues when the 1710 was in its hayday (not that long ago). I certainly don't have the problem either.

I wanted to see HIS not a standard picture...I know what every computer looks like, if that was the case why do we have a photo gallery...Not sure if your question was being a smart A## or serious.

the 1710 is a good computer but you can find a loaded 1730 for 1900 in the dell outlet weekly. also the 7950 and 7900's do not perform well in newer games. i just would rather spend 1900 on something that will last rather than 1000+ on something that is outdated. thats all i meant by it.

i posted pictures of my computer, not standard picture, not to be a smart ass or anything, just thought you actually didn't know what an m1710 looked like somehow... only 2 possible differences externally

I realize this, I just wanted to see his setup, no biggy.

maybe, but the m1730 is larger, heavyer and i personally dont like the way it looks, although i will have one soon probably it is still a viable laptop, and probably has 1 or more years before it is actually outdated. to assume someone is stupid for buying something no longer on the cutting edge is just arrogant. he explained why he made his decision and if you bothered to read his post, you would have realized your post wasn't needed or nescerry

And I'm barely a year into my 3 year extended w/ CompleteCare to boot.

In all honesty, I'm hoping it lasts and lasts like my 9300 has. I don't much care for the 1730 on a number of levels.

I agree we all buy what we feel is necessary, bashing him is no better...Some people cannot afford a 1730 and feel the 10 is adequate and for most it is...So Good luck on your purchase and let us know how it works out for ya!!!!

Actually I must say I like the XPS M170 the best of the looks of it. I own one myself though sadly with a broken go 7800 GTX, however I will buy a new GPU even if it is expensive.

I have the XPS M1730 too with 8800m GTX SLI. While the laptop itself is kick ass and the cooling is kick ass I still prefer the look of the M170/M1710. Though performance wise I think my XPS M170 still performed really great in newer games

But the M1730 eats every game alive out there except Crysis, though that runs in DX10 at 1920x1200 High though tweaked to more Very High looks with an average fps of 34 so not bad at all. All other games stands no chance against the SLI setup.

Congrats on the 1710! I'm sure you'll enjoy the heck out of it as many others around here have.

It's not your money. The 7-series cards still hold up quite well....
