I posted this to the driver forum a few days ago, but with very few views and no responses that forum is quite a bit less populace than this one so I'm hoping someone here may have run across this issue before.

First, about my setup.
-Dell XPS 1730 Dual 8700
-Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit
-NBF MobileForce 175.16

Everything normally works fine, but I discovered that the main game I play really doesn't like SLI. I was having horrible tearing problems and video glitches until I disabled it. I have not yet investigated other drivers with the game.

Here's the problem, and this only occurs with SLI disabled. When SLI is enabled everything works fine.

When I boot the 1730 when running from battery, I get BIOS post, then I get the Microsoft loading bar. When Windows switches to graphics mode, the screen remains powered on, however nothing is displayed. It's just a black screen. Booting continues, I can hear the standard sounds, eventually the HDD settles down and I push the power button and it shuts off normally.

When plugged in, it works properly. When running with SLI enabled, it works properly either plugged in or on batteries.

Once the machine is booted, I can unplug it with no ill effects. If I suspend it powered and resume after unplugging, all is still well. This issue appears very specific to something happening at system boot.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. Even though I don't get much for battery life, I do run this machine fairly often untethered.

Thanks!
