Help Convince me to buy a Sager NP9262

Hello everyone , I have been perusing the internet for computers for the past 2 weeks now. I went from considering updating my current desktop to purchasing a brand new laptop. My original mindset was that it is relatively hassle-free and cheaper to upgrade a desktop compared to a notebook. But then I thought what’s the point if I am going to be away at college most of time away. I don’t think spending a grand is worth it if I can only enjoy it a few times a year, right. So I opted for a notebook.
My first inclination was to visit Dell and Alienware and of course they were expensive. Then I checked out Velocity Micro and iBUYPOWER, and I wasn’t too satisfied with them either. So I asked around a couple of sites for a second opinion and one of the members recommended Sager. Well I never heard of the company before but I figured they catered to the laptop enthusiast market so I checked them out. It turns out that they seem to have a good standing with their customers—which can be witnessed from this site also. However, despite this fact, I remain rather hesitant to make a purchase with a company I don’t really know. I would actually consider myself a fool if I weren’t.
So to make a long story shorter, I need a little more convincing before I can commit, and I was hoping if some Sager owners could answers a couple questions for me. If anything, I plan on purchasing a NP9262.

Here they are:
· How long on average did you have a Sager before you started encountering problems (I read a number of posts from different sites where people needed their motherboards replaced several times, one six months after they got it)?
· How often do you have hardware issues?
· How long on average is the lifespan of your Sager?
· In you experience, does Sager uphold well to their warranties?
· Do you usually overclock your Sager?
· Is the NP9262 easy to upgrade?
· To clarify, does the model offer MXM graphics cards?
· Considering that the 9262 uses a 775 socket, could I hypothetically upgrade to a QX9775 in the future and would you recommend it?
· What resellers would you recommend for Sager?
· Would you purchase a Sager in the future?
· And finally, what do you think I should know about Sager (besides the price) that would help me decide?

Thanks a lot, I appreciate any help.

I just ordered one. I'll let you know in a week or so. It's my second Clevo from Sager. My last one worked fine and is for sale.

Yes the CPU is a standard desktop CPU so you can upgrade it if you get the dual core now and want to drop a quad in next year when they are cheap and more apps better utilize multi threading. You have to consider cooling but any CPU currently offered should be fine as an upgrade since the heat sink is the same. Upgrades will require some technical skills of course or you could send it back to Sager.

The GPU is also upgradeable. The 9800M is a nice step up from the 8800 and the prices have dropped this month compared to last. The 9800GT is probably almost as fast as the 9800GTX and much cheaper. You can also SLI a second 9800GT now or down the road for even faster performance. It's not certain that the 9800GTX will be able to run SLI but it's presumed.

Most of the resellers are offering a free upgraded three year warranty (one year parts) if you order before the end of this month. I think PCTorque is offering free shipping instead.

The current 9262 is the upgrade I've been waiting for and I think it's a good time to get this model.

I think you can over clock but you should be very careful because of the limits you have with cooling and the high cost of replacements after you void your warranty. You probably won't need to over clock this thing but if you still have it in three years and it's not worth that much go for it. ;-)

The system will last as long as you take care of it....just like any other computer, especially laptops. I don't think Clevo or Sager brands are any less reliable than others....we'll see how it works out for me though.

My personal opinion is that this machine may cause you to neglect your studies and flunk out of college because you spent way too much time watching movies, gaming, tweaking, and showing off your Sager. You won't have that problem with a $800 Dell. ;-)
