VGN-S150 no video problem

Hello all,

I have a Sony Viao VGN-S150 here that is having a very weird and intermittent video problem. Well at first I thought it was video. There would be times where I'd simply reboot the notebook and no video. No "viao" logo with the chime, nothing. I noticed only the power and WLAN lights were lit on the front and nothing else. No hard drive activity, no activity reading the DVD, nothing.

Yet if I left it set and came back to it an hour later, all would work fine. I've rule out it being an LCD, video, inverter type of problem as it would work on my flat screen monitor while not on the notebook lcd.

Could this possibly be motherboard related? Do these viao models have seperate or onboard video cards? Could that be the problem? i've been trying to run diagnostic tests on it when it's up via Hiren's Boot CD, but when it doesn't boot, I obviously can't get into it.

Any ideas????

Brad

yep, known issue on many VGN-S series. Sony only admitted to certain models, sadly. Short of replacing the motherboard, someone mentioned about re-flowing the vid card. I use the service of AQSTech in New York for my S2HP. Dig the net for their address, and send them a mail first. They will be able to give you an exact disgnostic reply

cheers ...
