m9700 keyboard trouble...

hey all, i've had my m9700 for about 2 years now w/ no problems at all and for some reason this morning after turning it on (power went out last night so I had to turn it off) there are several keys that don't work including 1, e, t, 1, 3, 6, 8, - and some on the number pad. i've taken out the keyboard and cleaned everything and then reattached everything again but still the same problem. at first i thought it had to do with the lightning storm last night but isn't that what a surge protector is for, and anyways the tree that knocked out our power was further down the street.

i thought then to play around with the drivers on my laptop for the keyboard but the only problem is is that i can't get in it because of the password which involves the letters i can't use. would getting a new keyboard fix my problems or is there something wrong with a driver? Thanks for any help.

If you have an external usb keyboard, plug that in and try it. If it works, it's probably the onboard keyboard that's having issues, and you can access the driver with the external.

If it doesn't work, you've got bigger problems than the keyboard.

ok well just plugged in my dad's wireless keyboard/mouse and surprisingly it worked right away. so i'm guessing i just need to replace the keyboard if updating all the drivers doesn't do the trick? thanks for your help Hammerhead
