XPS M2010 not booting, no video

When I press the power button, the led's around the power button will light up and stay on for a few seconds then shut off. The power led on the left side remains lit as does the BT light. If I leave it set for a while, the BT light begins to flash but thats all I get - no diag code or anything. I have already tried removing/disconnecting everything I can think of (HDD, DVD, wireless, modem, BT card, memory, video card even) just to see if I could make it give me a diag code (I know - thats getting desparate). The only one that made it give me a code instead of turning off was removing the memory completely - it gave me the "no memory" code obviously (mute light was solid, vol up and down were flashing steady). But if I put known good memory in it, it doesn't work and if I put its memory in a known good laptop I have no probs. So I went ahead and bought a new motherboard and that didn't fix it (oops). Then I found this site. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do/try next?

. let us presume that the new mobo is cool
. cpu?

cheers ...

Ditto on the CPU being bad. If the motherboard has not problem it's generally always the CPU for the kind of issue you're having.

Thanks for the responses - I will try that next. I keep hoping to find a laptop near me that has a cpu I can try in it... Maybe tomorrow will be my day to find it

Just purchased and slapped in a t7400...no go. Any thoughts?

The only other sub assembly you haven't replaced is the video card. Might try that.

This is where the fun begins with out of warranty stuff. I hope these parts aren't costing you too much.

Hey reeseboy, I'm in the same boat as you are. Except my screen is entirely blank. The LED light situation is similar (my power light stays and the BT light blinks).

I'm trying to figure out if it is the mobo or vid card. Just ordered a new vid card (since it is cheaper) and will try it out.

Kinda weird that the vid card would kill the boot since I don't hear the hard drive or the CPU. Could be the Mobo, but in the other M2010 thread, someone said it was the vid card even though the entire time the mobo was replaced to no avail. And since you started with the mobo I'll try the vid card first.

It was the video card. I just got a new one in today and replaced it. After trying it and seeing it work, I went ahead and tried the old processor and motherboard just to see if they're good - they work fine.

I just thought I'd update this for anyone in the future...

I fixed mine too... BUT IT WAS NEITHER THE VID CARD NOR MOBO directly. When I replaced both, nothing happened. But I left the computer plugged in for a while and it finally booted up. I just tested the old mobo and vid card and now they work as well!!!

ebay

I've found eBay to be invaluable if you have un-needed spare parts that you KNOW are good. I've resold parts on eBay for as much if not more than what I originally paid.
