Hey all I am new to your forums and plan to stick around for a while.

Topic NEW VS Referbs

New Pros
Nice and shiney
30 day return poilcy
Very customizable

New Cons
Over priced.
New technology added overtime
Priced can drop after you buy one.

Referb Pros
Cheap
Full warrenty options
Fast shippment
Can ordered Never shipped to customers (canceled orders)

Referb Cons
Can be strached
limited customizable
No 30 day return

Over all the best bet is to Buy a referb. Let me tell you why.
build a computer at http://dell.com then go to Http://outlet.dell.com and find the same computer. Look at the price difference. That is the main factor. If you buy a strached and dented referb and or anything such as that. You will get atleast a 1 year onsite warrently if you do not want to pay for 2 to 3 years. Once you get your computer, if there is any damage or straches or others you can get the parts replaced. AKA you will get a brand new computer that you see at the dell website for more then 1/2 off.

If you order complete care with the laptop. Dell will replace any part for almost no matter what. But basic hardware warrently you need to be a little clever to get some parts replace but you can do it.

Just a little tip to help you get the computer you want at a good price.

Absolutely. I just picked up for $1145 ($1265 with tax and shipping) the following:

M1530
Midnight Blue
WUXGA
T9300
4 GB RAM
8600GT
Intel4965 Wireless N
355 Bluetooth
DVDRW
120GB 5400rpm Drive
9 Cell Battery
5 Button Blue tooth Travel mouse
Lord of the Rings online (I don't play but hey it comes with the lappy)

Needless to say, I am uhm, rather pleased. I get all of my laptops through the outlet when I can

FYI: there is a 30 day return policy on refurbished laptops at well. I sent one back about a month ago after ordering a cheaper, better, system and they gave me all my money back

I got a refurb M1530 crimson red with Vista Pro for $1100 and got the 3 year warranty for the total of a base 1530 new.

No cosmetic blemishes. There was something weird with the trackpad, but a guy came and fixed it no problem.

I will definately get refurb dells in the future.

On the site if you see previous ordered. That means it will getting built and the customer canceled the order. Now it is a referb. So its not like they are all used goods some are brandnew and never been shipped out. But some of the others. you can use the warrently to replace all the used parts if you wanted to. and get a new computer. Also I am really sure all your girl friends are used. unless you like that kiddy porn lol JK

2x refurb, 1x new guy here. Got 30% off coupon for the new and 15% on both refurb.

Pretty happy, but one refurb has some video issues now and then. I think it is heat related, but not a huge deal. Let her cool for a few mins then restart. Other lappy has a bowed out bezel that you wouldn't think about unless you noticed it.

New one was pretty much perfect but had a small chunk of paint chipped out.

Refurb was half price and I recommend going that way. You might get some minor troubles like I did, but anything that is a major can probably be replaced easily from Dell.

My next laptop would be a refub as well.

I got a refurb M6400 from the outlet and saved about 1500 off the new price. About the only thing I can see is some back light bleed on the screen but it is hardly noticeable.

A refurb can be any machine a customer sent back for pretty much any reason. Another way to look at it is since it was returned it probably had a tech look at it as opposed to new where it was just put together at an assembly line.

I have several Outlet computers for my family and friends, have not had any problems with that, and got a decent deal.

I bought a few on ebay for great prices, but one has to be careful whom you deal with there.

I also bought many new from Dell, when they been on sale.

In Ausi they don't run a dell outlet - so I get mine from Graysonline - they tend to wholesale the units through auction only problem is a lack of a warranty, you can go back to dell and purchase one but I have never bothered with this.

So far I have brought around 7 laptops and one desktop for various friends etc and you save around 20% - 50% on retail depending on the build.

From what I can see the USA seems to get the best deals out there with some great outlet specials - just wish I had the same options over here.
