Question about the TX2500 series

Thread Starter
I'm getting into art and cgi work, and I've reached the point where I NEED to get a drawing tablet. I happen to be shopping for a new laptop as well so I figured why not nail two bird with one stone?

I've heard some decent reviews of the TX2500 series but none about its abilities as a tablet. In How well would it
work to draw with if I installed some drawing software to it? How would it compare to a dedicated drawing tablet?

My two cents on tablet pc's: you really don't want the problems that come with them. First off, the stylus WILL scratch up the screen because of the tiny dirt particles it catches. Second, I've seen the swiveling action of the screens fray the wires that run in the "swivel hinge" and kill the lcd. Plus, (i'm guessing here), I'm not even sure tables have that great of touch precison compared to a digital writing pad.

Plus tablets cost a ton.

Hope this helps

if CAD was what you meant by "drawing software", you might be disappointed.

cheers ...

I'm actually in the same boat, drooling over the TX2500Z and preparing to buy one... It has Wacom technology, the same company that makes drawing tablets, and that's an active digitizer with 256-level pressure sensitivity (can detect a whole range of light-to-heavy pressure), along with the awesome pen with a working eraser on the end just like a pencil (make a mistake? just flip it over and rub the 'eraser' end on the screen, and it knows that it's the eraser, not the pen tip!).

I would love to hear from other people who have real experience with this laptop though. I really plan on buying one, but not for several weeks (if not months), so it'd be nice to get some opinions sooner before I buy it.

Also I was wondering, to add onto the question here, does the pen that comes with the tablet have any buttons on it? Like, mouse buttons or something, so that you can right-click tap? I haven't been able to find any info about that.

Thanks!

Well, I just found this little tidbit in a review:
"The pen itself feels fine to hold, though it’s not the highest of quality. The side button is rather cheap feeling."

So the pen does have a side button. Not two, just one. But I guess that's used for right-clicking? I can only assume. Waiting for someone who owns this laptop to clarify!

Yep for right clicking. lol
