Sony S5XP S Series Heat / Fan Issue

Thread Starter
I have a UK model from the S-Series - VGN-S5XP/B.

The laptop has always been quite warm in temperature, but over the last few weeks I've noticed that it has become much more hotter, especially under the laptop.

I have checked that the fan is still spinning, and so far the laptop seems to be functioning okay, but I am concerned about the high case temperature.

Should I replace the fan? If so, is it straight forward once I can get to it?

Any help, thoughts and advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i used some compressed air and a vacuum cleaner on my S2HP, and new thermal paste 4 months back. This helped getting the comp cooler again.

Unless the fan makes noise or stops spinning, there is no need to replace it.

cheers ...

the fan has definately become louder, and sometimes makes an awful grinding noise?

is the fan assembly easy to take out?

it is not that hard to take the heatsink and fan assembly apart. After removing the cover, you might just want to compress-air it out. You'd be surprised how much dirt can get inside any laptops, when giving them the right environemnt (for collecting dirt)

Bur i would try with the compress air from outside first.

cheers ...
