Aspire 6920G music playback hiccups

I experience music playback hiccups on my Aspire 6920G from time to time, typically very small stops in the music, varying in frequency on how much CPU power and RAM i use. The thing I find odd is experiencing this even when I might use 20 % of my CPU and 40 % of my RAM, then it shouldn't happen at all, but it does. A hiccup once every fifth minute might be typical at such usage. Once every minute if I use my full CPU. Once when I was playing music in iTunes the sound became messed up as well, and I was wondering if my inbuilt laptop speakers had exploded. I was not really pushing my laptop at all, but when I restarted iTunes the problems were gone. Now I use foobar2000 with 5 seconds buffer length and 5 MB file buffering to counter these hiccups, and I guess it might be working to some degree, but not fully. I also do not use eAudio. Is the conclusion something is wrong with my soundcard? I am rather n00b at this stuff...

Do you have the same results when playing store bought music from a cd ?

Yes, it does.

I am just wondering what the causes can be. It happens even when I am not close to using full CPU, so it can't be related to that. It could be due to drivers? I have the latest drivers though, and if it is related to that, other persons with Aspire 6920G should experience these problems as well.

Right now I am using 100 % CPU (constantly, because a chess position analyzing program is set to use 100 % CPU) and 2/3 of my RAM and not experiencing any problems, so I find it hard to predict. What can be the causes of it some times stuttering at such usage and sometimes not?

I guess I in part am asking, how can I sometimes have no problems with playback at 100 % CPU usage, while other times have problems when I am nowhere near using my full CPU? It just doesn't make sense ...

i would try to:
. look at the DMA setting in the secondary controller (device manager)
. disable windows indexing
. disable the AV while playing music and see if any improvements can be seen

I didn't get any of that really, but I did turn off all audio enhancements. Don't know if it is working yet, though.

Update: Doesn't seem to work. At least reading about similar problems on the Internet suggests it's probably not a physical problem with the sound card, and that no physical repairs are demanded, but it does seem like fixing these kinds of problems can be quite tricky, and that you need to try a number of different things.

And now I installed these drivers: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...3&DownTypeID=3

Seems like I didn't have the newest drivers after all. We will see how it goes.

Update: Doesn't seem to work either.

I don't know if this piece of information will help or not though, but anyway, when I play a certain video file, it stutters at the same place when I play it several times.

And I have tried three sets of drivers now, and the problems have persisted in every case. What does that mean?

I use K-Lite Codec Pack 4.1.4 FULL.

let us try this:
. Start/Run/ dxdiag (go through all the tests and note if anything is out of whack)
. scan your disk (chkdisk /f)
. did you review the recommendations in post#4 above?

cheers ...

1) Bias version is 1.00PARTTBL6, which I found suspicious. There is nothing else to report though.

2) The commando didn't work. I did control the disk which I have my music on once, though. Don't know if we are talking about the same thing though. My Windows version is Norwegian, which at times makes tips somewhat harder to follow, although it's not a major problem.

3) That fourth post went over my n00b head...

- DMA settings:
. Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->IDE ... controller:
here you can see the secondary controler, right click, then properties, 2nd tab, you should see that transfer mode -> set to DMA when available

- windows indexing:
. My computers
. choose your main drive (C: most of the time)
. right click, properties
. uncheck the very bottom options of indexing (ig have not done so)
. let it work for a few minutes/ accept the option of all sub directories / ignore all when warning messages come up

- AV
. this is your antivirus scanner, if you have one.
. just stop it and try the media again

cheers ...
