DV9000 XP Drivers - Any Help

Thread Starter
Hello,

I have upgraded (downgraded?) my DV9000 to XP Pro. Here is my problem - HP won't support any drivers for XP.

Unfortunately I was so pissed off at Vista "failing" for what seemed like the gazillionth time I formatted it (yes I admit was a bit of a rash move, but frankly I have become a HUGE NON FAN OF VISTA).

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide.

Regards,
Brian

Search the forum for the related models of your comp. You will find that most xp drivers for the devices are readily available. Just need some diggings. Only note is the sata driver for your drive at system prep and format. Make sure that you have it on hand, before xp installation.

cheers ...

So I assume you have already installed XP and just need the drivers? qhn is right, most of the XP drivers for nearly every type of HP laptop is readily available since loads of other people hate Vista too.

Good news is your system is nearly identical to mine in hardware so I can just give you the names of the stuff I use as soon as I get back to use my external hdd.

Can you tell me what gfx card and chipset you have specifically?

Hi dr/qhn

Yes, I already have XP Pro SP2 installed on my laptop.

Thanks for the reply - The Gfx = NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 (UMA) my processor = 1.7 GHz AMD Athlon ™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TK-53 I don't know if that is what you are looking for or not - if not where can I find the info you want?

The actual model number is DV9417cl.

Cheers,
Brian

I can give you the graphics without being near my external hdd:

These should install without any problems, but you might have to manually "update" the driver through device manager and say "I have a disc" and point in to the c:\nvidia folder where this package extracts to and just pick some random device to install...like the Geforce 6150 or something that sounds close (i installed the 8800 gtx on my 7150m and it made no difference)

http://downloads.guru3d.com/GeForce-ForceWare-177.70-XP-(32-bit)-download-2004.html

I'll edit my post as soon as I see everything else you have under the hood from your manual....ugh your manual isn't very helpful in the model numbers for some reason....lemme try something with you:

(Google to find these things i'm mentioning)
Install the UAA audio driver (your modem and audio device should now pop up asking for a driver...click cancel)
Download and install sp38314. If it says media not found, manually update the driver again (device manager) it's called "Audio Device on High Definition..." for me and the sp extracts to "C:\Swsetup\39314". If after doing all that and rebooting, the modem should ask for a driver again, click cancel, and tell me if you get sound. If this works than I can just give you a screenshot of my driver folder and you can download and install all of them (since our systems would pretty much be the same except for the bluetooth which I don't have.

PS: For future reference, it's best to give the full model number right off the bat.

Ignore This.

Hi dr/owned,

Thanks! We're making progress - the display looks much better. I also have sound! Apologies for my naivete re: my HP model number - I didn't realize HP had SOO many DV 9000's.

I have a few yellow question marks/exclamation points remaining:
namely - three (3) Base System Devices, Coprocessor, Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Other PCI Bridge Device, SM Bus Controller. I don't know how to identify what those things are - the only thing that I know if is the inability of the "lan" connection to function.

Cheers,
Brian

There were many models from the dv2000, dv6000, and dv9000 that came with XP. There are drivers available and they are right on HP's site.

I have all those drivers you mentioned that have a yellow flag next to them except for the Coprocessor one on my thumb drive. If you need them send me a message and include your email address.

Lan, coprocessor, and smbus will all be fixed by installing the chipset driver. (The nforce chipset includes the lan)

Try downloading nforce 14.11 for xp (google). I'll give you a screenshot of my driver folder as soon as I get home. Let me know though if the 14.11 installs fine and makes those evil yellow exclams go away. 14.11 isn't the "latest" nforce chipset driver but I've found it's the only one that keeps everything working without problems. If the 14.11 doesn't work, try the 13.11, I think 14 is for XP and 13 is for Vista but I'm not 100% sure.

Soulsaver- the problem with using those for other models is that they are often older drivers (since HP stops supporting those models actively). I spent loads of time romping around the business support section to make sure I use the latest drivers available to avoid glitches....paranoid....yes

Oh, your wifi shouldn't be working either (I assume you missed it in the device manager).

HI dr/owned

Ok, so I googled the nforce 14.11 for xp, and didn't come up with anything that I felt confidant was a chipset driver. Most of what came up were graphics drivers (I just want to make sure that I'm downloading the right driver and that I don't make things worse).
BTW for some weird reason the wifi has been working since I installed XP - don't really know why.

Cheers,
Brian

Weird on the wifi part.

Sorry, I just googled, it's 14.13. http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList...mcp68_2kxp.exe This isn't the exact package that I'm using, but I suspect it should be the same.

This is why I stored all the drivers on my external

Ok it was actually 14.10. Woops. Here's the list of drivers and the order I install them (attached) You might just want to update your Wifi driver just to make sure you have the latest version. (Don't do the bios one)

Good luck.

ok - i updated all of the drivers that I think I might've missed (went down the "list" very cool thanks). I still have a couple of issues - No LAN and three (3) Base System Device ("question marks/exclamation points") and one (1) Other PCI Bridge Device.

Do you think I should try the 14.10?
Yes, not having lan means the nforce version is wrong, so you gotta try another- 14.10 as you mentioned. I remember seeing 3 base system device exclams but I can't remember what corrected it....I think I just go back down the list until they go away I suspect it's either the card reader, or the nforce issue popping up. Try 14.10 first before anything else. If 14.10 doesn't work, I can give you a whole batch of ones to try until you find one that does. The problem is, I'm not sure what nforce chipset you have. I just know mine is the 630m from when I bought it.

Why on God's green earth would you NOT update a BIOS?

Do you not update your Windows and anit-virus programs?

That is some poor advice

The SM Bus driver is NOT part of the Nvidia chipset. The SM Bus is the memory card reader which has a separate driver
post #16 of 19
Wrong. Try installing the chipset driver and you'll see SMBus Driver is one of the things it installs. Second, I didn't recommend installing the BIOS update because his system might have a different one....cut the holier-than-thou attitude. The card reader shows up as a unknown Base System Device in the device manager when the card reader driver is not installed.

Edit: Added screenshot of nforce installation.

Thanks dr/

I really appreciate all of the time you have taken to help me straighten this out. I have learned quite a bit - and for that I am eternally grateful.

I'll let you know how the 14.10 turns out.

Cheers,
Brian

here is the link straight from HP's website for the memory card reader:
