....I am a student and a traveller. I don't play many games, and if I do they are usually a few years old. I am basically using the internet and writing papers, but I like to be able to do a bit of photo editing and listen to music on the fly......looking at an M1330 -

T8100 2.1/800 MHz 3MB
3GB RAM
Slim LED
128 NVidia 8400M GS
160GB HD (7200)
Hi-Def Audio 2.0
Dell Wireless 1395 802.11 g
Verizon mobile card
85whr - 9 cell battery
bluetooth w/mouse

......any major flaws/ bottlenecks in this setup? Thanks for the help.....

Configure an M1530 with the WUXGA option if you do photo editing. Higher res and still not a heavy laptop. Go with the 8600GT and you should be set. There are coupons out now for 25% off M1530.

Just my two cents. It is a light notebook and IMHO better than the 1330 IF you are going to do any remotely good photo editing on the original screen. It was my primary consideration in getting a 1530. It offered 1920X1200.

It really depends on you. For me I'm not a big guy 5'8"-5'9" skinny so I perfer the M1330 b/c it's compact and I could carry in my backpack easily with books. The M1330 weights about the same as your desktop keyboard. Writing papers, surfing, watching dvd, music, etc the M1330 should allow you to do more than enough with those configurations. If you are doing photo editing you may go with M1530 because it offers higher GPU and high definition screen (then again you are a student so those upgrades will cost you about $200+ more). The M1530 weights about 2x your desktop keyboard so it might play a factor if you carry it plus all your books.

I still use my old m170 for some games that play better on it, but for portability, my 1210 and 1130 sure are nice. Their smaller size combined with the smaller power brick make lugging them around much easier.

I can even haul a book and some extra stuff without much effort. The 17" behemoth is best left on the desk or moved around the house as necessary.

Maybe I am getting old

Thanks for the info.....I have an e1505 that I will probably use for the hard-core stuff, I am just tired of lugging it around and it has a LOT of hours on it. I am looking for fast load and shut down times, as I move around a lot, I am hoping that the 7200 HD helps that. Is the 9 cell battery annoying? It looks a bit strange and I will be mostly using it on my lap. Does anyone have experience with the Verizon card? Thanks again -

The 9 cell is will make your lappy heavier. But overall not much difference. I'm happy with my M1330 and I think it's your best choice unless you want macbook air which is lighter but more expensive and no dvd rom.

Looks like a good setup. There is a coupon for the XPS1330 out for 30% off if it is over the price of $1599. Here is the link:http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp I'm not sure about the Verizon card, but to get the $125 off you need to sign a 2 year contract with Verizon. Info found here: www.dell.com/verizonwireless
