What's Wrong with My Power Light?

Greetings!
My Machine is GateWay 7405. A few days ago, the power button light worked fine, but today, it seems working bad, the light become dimer and dimer, even no light. but when I turn off all the light on the machine by FN+F1, I can see there is a light flash in the power button, just a flash. I wonder what is up? How can I fix? I really need help.
Thanks in advance!

could be some static, could be bad led. Try remove the ac and the battery, hold down the power button for a while, and see.

I tried, but nothing happened. But sometimes it works by itself! Also the light is so dim. So I tried to press straight on the cover around the button, I found sometimes it worked, sometimes no.
I wonder if it is related to the famous problem---fliker? It seems the flicker problem is also located there.

You can always try to remove the power bezel, the strip that holds the power button, and look and clean (with compressed air) underneath and see.

I have the same issue. Sounds to me like its a faulty LED, or maybe some interference from the charger maybe? Mine has stopped working alltogether, but the button works (odd..) If you have the guts to take apart the laptop, the bezel that the buttons are a part of isn't terribly difficult to replace. It's got one small ribbon that plugs into the motherboard. You might be best off getting a replacement rather than trying to solder a tiny LED in the button.

If anyone has figured out why the power button does this, I'd like to know too.

The LED part within the power board just gave up. It does happen now and then. And agreed, the best thing is just to replace the power board itself.

M5312 All but 1 LED lights up

My M5312 was working OK yesterday, today none of the LEDs below the touchpad buttons light up: AC Power, Cap Lock, Num Lock, CD or HD, or Power or Charging. At first I thought the AC power supply died (new since July 09) but with the battery removed the unit powers up and works. The Power On button LED does work. This was posted from the laptop.

Any hints as to how to remedy this? Thanks. This Forum is Best on Web.

A bad battery then?

Not a bad battery

My bad. Battery was my first thought. But I removed the battery and it powers up on AC just fine. Switched batteries (I have 2) and still no change. Posting this from the laptop.

All of the LEDS fail to light up, except for the Power On LED, which does light up. The laptop otherwise works 100% fine. It just happened overnight. One day all is fine, next day on power up it is not.

The unit was never dropped. The right side hinge (over Power switch) is slightly pulled out from the bezel from the outside, but apparently that is SOP for this model. I am the original owner and have treated unit pristinely for all these years.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Let me try to understand. Notebook powers up when on AC only, if you leave battery in it will not work - correct?

... gave more thought on this, it could be a bad power strip if notebook works but only LEDs are out

Works with or without battery

On AC works. On battery works. Shows 100% charged on battery.

What is "a bad power strip"? Is that a replaceable part? Is it even worth replacing if laptop otherwise works?

Thanks.

Power strip = power bezel; the part where you push the power button and other LEDs. I have the feeling that the LEDs diodes are bad. And it is not so expensive.

All of the LEDS BELOW the Touchpad Buttons fail to light up; the Power On LED next to the Power On Button does work.

Would the "power strip/bezel" affect the LEDs on the other end of the top of the laptop?

My bad. In this case it is the power board underneath the touch pad that would need to be replaced. It is being connected to the motherboard by a ribbon cable. You might want to check if the cable got loose somehow first. This requires the removal of the palm rest area.

Great. I will follow the posted 'How to Disassemble' pix and try it. Thanks.
