Which to keep, XPS M1210 or XPS M1330

Hi all,

I have an xps m1210 fully loaded
core2duo T7600 2.3 ghz, 4MB L2 Cache, ???mhz fsb, geforce 7400 go
no bluetooth, wifi a/b

and an xps m1330
core2duo T7250 2.0 ghz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800 mhz fsb, geforce 8400 gs
bluetooth, wifi N

I would like to sell one of them, but can't decide which. Having paid more for the 1210 originally, I feel bad giving up the better processor, but the video card difference+bt+wifiN seem like they make up for it. However, I just read that NVidia recently (and tacitly) acknowledged a widespread problem with GeForce 8 cards. Is that a good enough reason to get rid of the 1330? And is there a way to swap some of these components between the two computers?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

swap the cpu's

i think the gpu problem is not as widespread as everyone thinks, i personally dont worry too much about it.

Is there a manual somewhere on how to swap the cpus? I read that it was pretty simple (access the CPU through the memory cover underneath), just want to see if there are some diagrams/layed out steps.

Also, (dumb question) the L2 cache gets swapped along with the CPU, right?

I forgot to mention that I also get a FSB boost from the m1330 b/c it's at 800mhz vs. m1210's likely 667mhz fsb.
First, does the m1210 configuration that I have have a 667 or 800mhz fsb? Does the T7600 support 800mhz fsb?

for the m1330 is easy to swap out, as for the m1210, no clue how that will be. there are manuals @ dell.com, and everything about laptop maintenance and repair is easy enough, if you are able to deal with the patience of it
as for the cpu fsb and stuff, no idea, i dont know much about that kind of stuff. i believe the fsb is built into the chip, and you will probably have to downgrade the fsb speed because the m1210 is slower than the m1330's chip

I thought the cpu's were not swappable as they are different pin out configs, but I could be wrong. I would see which you could get more for. Which do you use more? I have a m1210 and love it. You can swap the wireless cards and blue tooth no problem if that is an issue. Personally, I would sell the 1330 if you paid more for the 1210 and then put that money towards the Nahelem laptop derivative next year or so.

I'd keep which model you like better yourself, despite the T7600 being faster [slower 667 fsb included] than the T7250 in calculation benchmarks,I very much doubt you would notice a difference normally......you can probably tell better than us as you have both to compare [as long as you factor other things in like OS,hard drive,GPU etc]

If you game at all,the 8400M GS is an advantage that the cpu won't make up for and I agree with woodstock, seems like a lot of hysteria coming from people who haven't even had a problem with these GPU's yet

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I think ideally I would like to swap the CPUs between the two computers. Does anyone know if that is possible?

shows how the T7600 outperforms the T7250.

Every bit of performance counts, including graphical performance, since I am turning the one I keep into a Hackintosh. I've already tried it with a m1210 and it works really well, but with some flaws in 3d performance. Hoping the m1330 makes up for that.

Ok, well since nobody replied, I might as well follow up with what I discovered in case someone else wants to swap processors.

The M1210s ended with MEROM processors (at the newest) which means they were socket M. The new M1330 line processors use socket P. Which means I couldn't swap them. I did find a Penryn T8300 socket P on ebay for 200 bucks
