Can the D830 Graphics card be upgraded?

Thread Starter
I have an E1705 and the keyboard size with the extra case size just screws up my weird way of typing so I am looking at going back to a 15.4 Screen setup.

I got offered a D830 but it has the 140m... def not great... nor even as good as my 7800go that I was only decently pleased with.

What I want to know is there some light for upgrading the D830 or could I possibly use the 7800go in the E1705?
Thanks

No you cannot upgrade the D830 graphics

Actually technically you can upgrade the GPU if its using a FFPGA (BGA) that is the same socket as the chip you are upgrading to.

For instance the quadro 135 would probably be able to upgrade to the 140 quadro.
And the crestline chips _MIGHT_ be able to be switched to the quadro chip. (but thats a pretty unsafe bet seeing how you would be going from intel to nvidia , but i wouldn't rule it out)

It really is just a problem of upgrade cost Versus doing a full system upgrade.
Which in this case probably wouldn't be worth it.
but it _IS_ possible.

More so however on systems with MXM slots :P

So if you are feeling adventurous and have the money to burn (or you can justify the cost), find the tools or upgrade shop willing to and able to tackle the hard task. And let us know how you make out!

Well i think that would depend on the individual or company requirements are. For instance if you are running some graphics intensive background applications such as Arcs or doing rainbow table crunching.

It may also be beneficial if you are daisy chaining a raped system for parts and already had working parts available or where in the computer service industry and had the know how and/or tools needed to do the upgrade.

like i said it all comes down to what your needs are.

The D830 GPU is fixed to the system board. You will be stuck with the graphics processor installed.
