Asus G2S vs. HP pavilion dv7

Greetings

I'm looking to buy a new laptop this month and I think I have narrowed my choices down to the Asus G2s and the HP pavilion dv7.

I will be using the notebook mostly for software development and audio engineering but I also would like to play some newer games on it occasionaly (Oblivion, COD 4, GTA IV when it comes out,..).

The notebook I have now is a four year old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo D7850, I've had a lot of overheating problems with this machine and I would like to avoid my next purchase to have the same issues.

Which of the two would you pick and why?

Some specs of the two machines:

Asus G2s
  • Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5Ghz; 6Mb L2 Cache; 800Mhz FSB)
  • 4096MB DDR2 667 (2 x 2048)
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GS 512MB (ddr3 ram I think?)
  • 17'' WXGA+ GlareType TFT 1440 x 900/ 1.3M Webcam
  • 200 GB Harddisk, 7200 rpm
HP Pavilion dv7
  • Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2,53 GHz , 6Mb Level 2 cache, 1066Mhz FSB)
  • 4096MB DDR2 667 (2 x 2048)
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB (should be ddr2 ram)
  • 17-inch WXGA high-definition AG-scherm met infinity BrightView
  • 500 GB (2x250) Harddisk, 5400 rpm (It might be possible to get a smaller drive at 7200 rpm if that is worth it..)
Other suggestions are welcome but keep in mind that I'm only able to order HP, Fujitsu-Siemens and Aus..

I will probably use Vista Home Premium 32 bit on it..

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply!

I've just got told I won't be able to get that asus with the T9300 cpu, it would come with a T8300 instead. Is the Asus still the better choice then?

id still go with it

keep in mind tho, the HP has more future proof with the new 1066fsb procs
but really im sure there is tiny ammounts of preformance gained in real world situations

Ok, thanks!

Either one would probably be fine if not overkill, but I don't know how much power audio-engineering and programming requires on average. I do believe that anything > 2.5 ghz on the cpu is too much for a laptop.
