GPU issues I think

Hello again.

I play WoW (yeah, i know) and lately I've been getting frame skipping issues. I downloaded that fan program (ik8 or whatever) and I still have the issue. What's going on? Is there anything else i can do to check and see if my gpu is flailing on me?

Is there a way to check what your FPS is ingame?

If so check it and when it starts "skipping" see what that FPS number is.

Also, what graphics card do you have? And what temperature is it showing it as (red line) in I8KFanGUI

You may need to clean out your heatsinks, they could have trapped dust and stuff on them which could be keeping the graphics card from cooling down and running to hot and having to limit itself.

Stays under 200 degrees (186 being peak).

I'm running wow between 20-50 fps, mostly depending on what is going on in the screen. Empty cities will net me around 40-50. Intense zones (outlands Hellfire Penninsula) will net me 25-35. Whenever the skip happens, I drop 2-4 fps before it catches back up.

I recently downloaded the WoW WotLK beta. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Given the graphics engine for WOW is about 4 years old and even then it was designed to not stress your system, your 7800 should run WOW and the beta w/o issue.
D/L the dell diags from their support site. They have a bootable USB key version now. RUn the graphics test and see if there is a memory issue. Also check your background processes. IF WOW is running it's updater, then it could be causing resource issues while you are playing.

Okay so it is FPS, do you know what is causing it to drop low numbers?

Does it happen at random, or does it happen during something specific?

It could be some particle effect that is going on causing it to do that or something, but did it not use to do this? It could be the beta possibly..

That's what I was thinking too.

Again, neither program is run concurrently of eachother. Furthermore, the beta is a wow + bc copy with LK attached to it. They are, in fact, separate entities on its own.

Now WotLK has very little skipping issues. Like once in a blue moon.

It might very well be the particle(s) effects in the "outlands".

I'll do some more research.
