Thread Starter
1. What type of laptop are you looking for? (Desktop replacement, ultraportable etc)

A student / gaming laptop / doesn't have to be ultraportable / good strong build, im hoping it will last for a while.

2. What will be your uses for the laptop? (Net browsing, word processing, gaming, video editing etc)

Video viewing, standard web searching, gaming

3. What is your total budget? (including VAT?)

£1200

4. How portable does the laptop need to be? (how often will it be moved around, where it will be taken)

Portability is not an issue

5. What type of screen do you want? (widescreen, glossy, size)

I've heard 17inch is too large, so probably 15inch

6. How much battery life is required?

Not an issue, will be on mains.

7. What type of processor/ram/hard drive/optical drives do you want?

Duel core, enough to play pritty demanding games, prefrably for future games as well, i.e. GTA 4 on pc, when it comes out.

8. If you want to play games, what type? (titles would be useful)

FPS, simulators, pritty demanding games.

9. Are there any specific things needed (e.g. ports)

Standard set

10. Which things are you willing to comprimise? (e.g. gaming laptops do not have long battery lives)

Battery life, size but not stupidly large!

11. What laptops have you considered? (post links) Are there any brands you like/dislike?

The Asus G1, Asus M50,

12. What operating system(s) do you want to run? (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Windows

13. Do you want a new laptop, or would you mind a refurbished or used?

New

14. Do you need/wish to purchase from a particular store?

Needs to be shipable to the uk, uk store would be best.

15. Timescale for purchasing (if you are buying in advance, it's best to wait until you really need it because of the fast pace at which technology advances)

The coming weeks

Any help would be great, cheers,

Dan

If you have good Asus availabilty in the UK,I'd say have a look at the G50 A1 or A2 for the specs it has, pretty decently priced, check out the thread here
http://www.notebookforums.com/thread219851.html and the thread links to have a gander.

Could also look at one of the 17" gateway's if you have gateway in the UK,with the 8800GTS or 9800GT,they seem pretty reasonably priced [in the US] and since portability isn't a factor for you.
