Aspire 5680 won't power up

Thread Starter
My Acer Aspire 5860 is a great laptop.
Other than the power issue I am having.
It is just over a year old ( out of warranty)

It won't power up from the battery ( which is still in good condition, hardy used)
I bought a new battery, just in case ( it is charged and is new)

The battery will charge in the laptop, but won't run from the battery.

Any help on this?
thanks so much
Paul

Not running meaning not been able to start with battery alone? have you tried running it in paralel with ac, and then unplug ac and see?

Yes, when I start it up on AC, with the batterry in, then pull the AC connector the laptop shuts off immediatelt

It is rare, but new replacement part (in this case, your battery) can fail just easily. Try to return the battery for another one, before we panic on possible worst issues?

I have 2 battries, both are fine. Tested in another 5680 .

ok, now it is becoming interesting! Wonder if you have the option of recalibrating the battery within your comp? I want to be on the optimistic side by saying that your comp somehow forgot that you a have a battery. So by doing the calibration it "reminds" it.

another place you can put in a thread to get more inputs (before thinking about a bad board)

Don't think I have that option. I am running vista 32

try the calibration, although there is no option in the bios.
most likely you are looking at a mainboard.

I knew you we're going to say that. $$$

Try booting off a LiveCD or an XP install disk before you go replacing hardware.

Sounds like a hardware issue if you have tried 2 good batteries. I would try a BIOS update in case but I do not think it will take care of it. Sounds like the charging circuit needs to be repaired.
