Hello!
I'm not sure which forum to place my question in, so sorry if this is the wrong one.
Earlier tonight I spilled water on the bottom right side of my IBM Thinkpad R50's keyboard. Within about two seconds, it turned off. Immediately I flipped it upside down and wiped it (upside down) to get the rest of the water out. I manually opened the CD drive to check for water (it's on the side of the spill) and there wasn't any in it. Then I left it alone for about an hour (sitting upside down) and I tried turning it on, but I didn't get a response. After that I took the battery out and put it back upside down. It seems dry (only a little water spilled into it, most of it was on the floor), but I was wondering a few things:
1. How much time should I let it dry? Should I put a fan near it?
2. Should I still keep it upside down or is it ok to put it right side up? It's resting in between two pillows on my floor right now.
3. I've been reading about spill-resistant Thinkpads--is mine one of those? I don't know how much it would have helped because I tilted the keyboard to get the water out.
4. What damage could have happened to it? I don't know much about computers, but I'm worried about how much repairs could cost.
5. Should I try opening it up and getting the hard drive out? I've been googling things about spills on laptops and they all suggest taking it apart and letting it dry. I'm not willing to do that at all--I wouldn't know how to put everything back. I don't have a warranty on it, and I'm concerned that the water may have somehow hit the hard drive.
6. Is there any hope for it?
Thank you very very very much for your help and sorry for all the questions. I'm so worried about it--it's relatively old and I don't want to lose everything I have on it.
