No more 8890 :( - Page 2

This is such sad news... The 8890, disappearing forever

I've had mine for about 8 months now, and although I had some initial problems, this computer has be astounding. Never have I owned so much value in a single peice of hardware. Sure, people called it ugly and heavy, but I loved it. I took notes on it every day, and played more than enough games. I just hope sager doesn't stop supporting the 8890, should something break in the future...

my dewalt worm drive is the prettiest thing i ever saw!!

c'mon lets get serious. These are tools and they don't have to focus on looks in order to make a damn fine tool, eh?

Zacharac, I get between 30-50fps playing FarCry on medium. What drivers are you using?

A sad tale indeed.

I am so glad that I ordered mine when there was still 16.1" SXGA screens around.

I absolutely love this machine! It's gorgeous (silver/green chameleon), powerful, and I even like the weighty-sturdy feel of it.

It's too bad others will miss out on owning such a fantastic portable PC (the thing is too big and heavy to be considered a laptop).

I just hope (pray!) nothing happens to my display 'cause it looks like it can't be replaced.

To you folks that were fortunate enough to get one (with no hassles), I smile contently with you. 'Grats!!! and good luck with your display screens!

Honestly I think the display could be brighter. When I'm at work compared to a CRT, or maybe my father in laws sony with XBRITE or whatever it is.

Long live the 8887 and the 16" U XGA screen!

Sigh, I love my 8890..its the best piece of computer I've ever had. I didn't think of it as ugly, but "classic" It had the looks of system of the early 90's but the power of the future. A fireball in a old style. Not your usual eye catcher. This was its beauty in a quasi-Bauhaus tradition.

I had purchased it with the impression that I could give it a new monkey heart in the future when it became too old to run with the young bucks.

Is there a way to upgrade this in the future when it is no longer in warranty? If it uses clevo guts..Is it possible to get a new mobo+GPU from another source than Sager and DIY? It would be a horrible shame to have to totally replace the entire system.

Fugly? Not with a nice paintjob it's not. Without a paintjob? Well, then I understand.

The XPS?. Now that is an ugly laptop. That thing is uglier than sin.

Sigh. I'm still glad I got my 8890 in the very first shipment of them. No problems with the screen, and no technacal problems that I could not fix.

The only thing I'm sad about, was that I was looking forward to a mobo upgrade when mine got dated. The good thing is, is that because I got the best things avalable when I got it, that will not happen for a long time.

I still cannot understand how anyone can call it ugly. Ginormas, yes. Ugly, no. Even without the paintjob (got mine befor they were avalable). The first thing the caught my eye about it was how much better than other laptops it looked.
