oh, i believe your warranty needs to be maxed out, with cc. dells are nice, but they often need maintenance. there isnt a dell i have owned that i have regretted the warranty i bought

I'll pretty much disagree and say that is 100% wrong. But that's just my little opinion from using Dell in the corporate workplace and home for the last decade, so take it with a grain of salt I guess.

you have been extremely lucky if you have not had to use your warranty. but it is cheap insurance. 100% is a bit strong and a in my opinion a bit naive to tell someone. wouldnt you much rather be prepared for the worst instead of pretending everything will be ok?

just cant get it to run without pissing me off. it mostly sits at work, but i used it as my main laptop for 2 weeks and i just couldnt stand it. i suppose comparing it to my m1710 or my 1505 is probably not fair, but i just dont like it

Bummer...most people seem to really like them......could always ask your wife to swap her 6400 for it.

BTW...I agree with maxing out warranty,or at least a NBD onsite,I personally haven't had to use warranty with dell in five years [apart from returning one after three weeks for refund],but the law of averages say the day will come, and sure wouldn't want to be mailing it anywhere or be without it.

she doesn't want it. the screen resolution is not so good so she would loose some screen.
warranty is always a good thing imho.

Actually, it's more like you have been extremely unlucky if you have had to use your warranty. By saying that Dells "often need maintenance" makes it sound as if Dell makes trash laptops. That certainly is not the case in my experience.

Come on, there is no way you would think that considering the number of Dells you already own! Have you really had that many problems?

The extended warranty does make sense though. I won't disagree with you there.

i am hard on my machines. i know that. but there are always little things that go wrong with any computer, but dell has the best warranty as far as i am concerned, even with all the headaches having to call or go through depot, still gets fixed eventually. and by maintinance, i was talking about little things too. but with the nvida overheating problem, a warranty is a good investment in my opinion

True. You must occasionally blow the dust out of the HSFs, since laptops are more sensitive to heat, and obviously you must treat a laptop well to expect consistant performance and less problems. The Nvidia heat problems are a concern, but I have yet to hear anyone that I know have a problem (5-6 people I know that own laptops with 7 or 8 series Nvidia cards). Still, an extended warranty is a good idea.

That said, I have flat out abused my XPS M170 for almost 3-years straight. I've played games for hours on it when it is 98 degrees and it feels like fire coming out of the HSFs. I've taken it in a backpack to/from school/work/friend's houses probably over 100 times. It has encoded video for 24 straight hours several times, it has played games for 8-hour stretches dozens of times (that always makes the wife happy), it has been used on airplanes, it has been used in cars, it has been lugged around 1/2 of Europe, it has had a cat jump on it every day since I've owned it, the LCD has been jarred, the audio ports have been accidentally yanked violently (I really need a wireless headset) and it even had a cup of coffee partially spilled on it by a coworker watching me play Battlefield 2142 (after work hours of course).

Through all of that, it has been a rock and it solidified my opinion that the Dell XPS line are top-notch laptops. I have no reason to believe that the m1330 wouldn't live up to those standards.
