How hard is it to replace powerjack on dell 9300?

Hi Everyone.
My trusty dell 9300 is needing some attention. Powerjack has been crapping out for a long
time......and it's time to repair.
My cord got hung up in it from getting hot.......didn't think it was going to come out.......I got it out but now it won't go back in.

So I'm running on battery power.....

I see the powerjacks all over EBay for less than $10 bucks shipped.

How difficult are they to install?

I've done a lot of stuff to this lappy.....so taking it apart to get to the powerjack is no problem.

I don't know if anyone has written a guide for this.......I used the search and couldn't find anything.

Help is grealty appreciated!

If you've done much soldering and de-soldering work it shouldn't be too difficult for you. Getting the old jack off the board is usually the biggest pain in the butt. Otherwise soldering the new one in place is no big deal.

Just get a good variable temp soldering station, and a desoldering pump (Not the bulb or the wick) and you'll probably get it off.

On a lark I even managed to salvage a good DC Jack off a defective board and put it on a working one because the jack wasn't readily available.

Well I have a sottering iron but it isn't variable temp. I might see if I have a junk mobo around here to play with or just take it to a computer shop in town. Trouble is I'm scared to let anyone touch my computer.....the last two that touched my computers did more harm than good.......is why I started to learn to do everything myself.

If you can't trust your local computer shops for simple things, I wouldn't trust them to solder anything either. There are some online laptop repair companies that'll fix a bad DC Jack for $150 which includes shipping both ways.

Well I took it to the only repair shop left in town.....and the owner said they don't do any sottering.

So I wound up doing it myself. It's not the easiest thing to do with my tools....I just had a sotteriing iron with a giant flat head tip.....
Took me a couple of hours but I managed.

So far so good.......
