Edit: Forgot to mention, Duke, (and give credit where due) that I'm surprised that this thread is still alive. Probably, in the not too distant past, it would have been locked. IMO, a thread like this at the other site would not only have been locked, it would have immediately been deleted.
It's all about communicating and having a right to express an opinion, respectfully.

And the lack of returning members was due to a LOT of things that were out of my control at the time.

In my opinion the forum theme is more in the way of reading here, than supporting it, but that also is no reason to leave this forum.

What bothers me more is the lack of topics about the 17' inspiron line. The inspirons are actually better covered in the other forum (which i didn't knew before this thread. )
The easiest way to rectify a lack of topics on something is to actually start a new topic.

If there aren't any threads on something that either means there aren't any people here who have it or that there are people here who do but they, for one reason or another, just don't start any conversations about it.

I understand what Administrators and Moderators are, but I honestly don't even know what a community rep is, much less that we had any.

Also, ever since the M1730 came out I've noticed a huge decline in activity. Most people seemed extremely unhappy with their systems and changed brands it seemed like. Maybe that could be a cause of the decline in activity?

I still think this place has something to offer, but there is alot of competition out there and some have found the grass greener else where.

Community Reps (or CRs) are basically forum members who can act as go-betweens from the forum community to the mods and admins and vice versa. Their main purposes are
1.) to be liasons so members who don't feel comfortable talking to mods or admins about something or who want to stay anonymous can voice complaints that the CRs will relay to the mods and admins and
2.) to tell the mods and admins when it looks like something's getting out of hand and needs their attention.

Generally speaking, they are usually respected forum members who are in touch with the community of their forum sections and who are also knowledgeable about their brand or section.

New CRs are nominated and chosen by the existing CRs.

Hell, i'll probably get banned and flamed and BBQ'd for this, and to be honest, i do laugh when i read his posts, but.....

Do you really think hammer and boyd are ACTUALLY NICE to people who come in with problems to this forum? lets think of the past 3 years. I mean seriously. The usual reply is "i own 4,5,6, pi+10 to the 3rd alienwares and i've never had a problem or they fixed it by sending me something, or basically you're a liar or just plain wrong." Let's think about it critically for a second. Cya maybe next week!

LOL

When I was brand new here, I got into it with Hammer and Boyd in the Voodoo/Kimble thread.

Over time though, I've seen a lot of what sets those guys off: n00bs posting in the AW forums with warnings not to buy AW products, complaints about silly things for which the posters never allowed AW a chance to rectify, and complaints from folks who haven't yet even bothered to inform AW that a problem exists and go ballistic because their new machines aren't absolutely perfect.

OTOH, Hammer in particular, can be extremely helpful when simply presented with an issue and asked for help. The guy really knows his AW "stuff." You're right, though, like most people who are fans of particular brands, he can be very . . . loyal? I can go off when I hear people knock some of my own favorites. The other day my gf's sister said something really dumb: "Starbucks mocha is NOT the greatest coffee drink on the planet." Damn, did she get an earful for that!

I have to agree. But hey, it's alright to be psychotic at times as long as it is in your own section of the forum!!!
