I can't wait to receive it. It's a replacement of my Latitude D820. I'm travalling a lot and i wanted something lighter.

Today is september 10th and yes my precision arrived has expected. I just open the box and launch the first boot. Here are my very first impression...

-Very nice unit well designed
-It's fast
-The AC adapter is significantly slimmer then the one on my D820
-The screen quality is very good.
-Fingerprint works better then on the D820

Ok here is my review after playing a couple days with Dell's newest Precision M2400.

I decided to go with a 14.1 primarily because I travel a lot and I was tired of carrying around my Latitude D820. So far I’m pleased with the laptop but for some reason it seems like it’s a bit slower then my old Latitude.

So let me start off by the aesthetical of this unit. It’s simply just gorgeous! It’s a very solid construction and the design his awesome. One thing I really like is the black finish of the keyboard. It reminds me of my old ThinkPad T43. The illuminated keyboard does the job it’s supposed to but the keys are illuminated but only from behind. What I mean is that the peripheral of the key is illuminated rather then the actual letter. The hinges are also very solid and it seems their cover if made out of some kind of metal. The only thing I’m a bit scared of is the LCD panel latch. It looks weak. An interesting feature is the new AC adapter. It’s a lot slimmer and the cord is much longer. Also it’s now grounded (3-pin) so you need a grounded outlet to connect your machine. The light sensor was greatly improved and the keyboard lit automatically when the light level is low.

My unit came with the fingerprint reader and it’s now located on the far right side bellow the speaker. This is far better then on my D820. One thing I noticed about the PreBoot manager is that when you swipe your finger and the swipe is bad, nothing happens… Not even a message to let you know the swipe was bad. Also there is a sensor for contact-less smart card but I have yet to find them on Dell’s site.

The unit runs pretty cool and it’s quiet. The fan is on more often then my D820 but it’s quieter and it doesn’t have that pulsing sound anymore. It doesn’t bother me at all and trust me, I’m picky on noise. Another thing you will notice, the laptop has no sticker whatsoever underneath, just the service tag. Everything else is located under the battery.

Now as for the performance, I haven’t ran any benchmark but the unit is performing has expected. I’m a professional developer so I run Visual Studio, SQL server, IIS all the same time and my application are responding correctly. Still I find it’s a bit slower then my Latitude but I will need to investigate more. As for games I will give them a shot later on this week. Tonight I will post the pictures of the unit. So far battery life is not the best on a 6 cell. I’m running Dell’s recommended profile.

One thing i would like to add... Since i got the unit, there was 3 bios update from Dell ;P

Still testing the battery life.
