Formatting vista on a dv8000

I installed Vista on my HP dv8000. I have been trying to format Vista and go back to XP for 3 days now but I have no idea how I should go about this. I've tried booting into command prompt and formatting from there but it tells me that my drivers will be deleted? I really wish there was a simpler way to downgrade. Any help will be appreciated!

Edit:I just tried again and it says the system partition will not allow the drive to be formatted.

Did you create the restore cd/dvd's for the system before you upgraded to asta la Vista?

If you did, then you can get the system up and running easily. If you did not create them, find a friend who has the same version of XP (pro, home, media center) and install it on your system. Use the Product ID from under the system to validate/register your copy of windows.

I didn't create restore cd/dvd's and all my friends are computer illiterate so I'll have trouble getting boot disks from them, is there a website I can go to which allows me to download boot disks?

Just pop in the XP install disc (boot from it) and before the installation it'll give you the option of formatting the drive.

Someone you know has to have a windows cd they can let you use to install as long as you are using your product ID.

Edit:Ok I finally got it formatted, problem is it was a clean wipe and I lost all my drivers. I didn't backup my swsetup folder(stupid mistake). Does anyone have a backup of the swsetup on a dv8000? Or does anyone know where I can get it?

on the bottom of the notebook, there is a white sticker with black lettering that will show something like:

DV8330US

something like that. Once you find that number on the bottom, I can direct you to the correct link for those drivers

DV8233cl, thanks a lot!

I called HP tech support and they just kept talking about my warranty. I just wanted to ask them if they had a cd which contained all the drivers and they basically told me to buy an extended warranty or hang up.

SwSetup is just a driver-backup folder. You could ask for a Recovery Disc from HP which I'm pretty sure will add back the SwSetup folder (and wipe out all your personal files and current windows installations)

Restore cd's are not free. he/she does not need them since the OS is installed already and only needs the hardware drivers from the link that I provided earlier.
