That seems pretty reasonable to me,considering the OEM's are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I guess time will tell if the whole thing is blown out of proportion or not.

Yes. I note they are still selling systems with the chip, so Dell isn't expecting to have a massive problem with them. If they expected 1 in 3 coming back or something, I doubt they would still be offering systems with the affected gpu.

Makes me think the newer ones might have a better chance, but that might be a bad assumption.
