T60 questions

Hey,

I'm new to this forum, and searched around to see if i could find some answers and couldnt really find what i was looking for, so here goes:

I have a T60, about 2+ years old, and its starting to show its age. Came with 1GB PC2-5300 memory, so i tossed in a stick of 2GB and im at 2.5GB, which helped, but i was thinking about doing a few more things:

-Upgrade my 60GB HD to something in the 200-300GB range
-possibly swap out my T2300 (1.66Ghz) for something like a T7400, or something with a higher FSB than the 667 it came with.
-possibly bumping up the 64MB ATI Mobility RADEON X1300 to something like a 256MB ATI.
-Currently on XP should i move to Vista?

I do some gaming, but also just a lot of multi-program, multi-window stuff all the time. I do realize that the MB is a bit old and may only be able to handle 667 FSB, and that if it can handle more, i would have to match the memory to the processor. I am still on XP still, and have held off on going to vista cause it was so buggy at the time it came out. But now my computer is in need of a wipe, so i figure at the very least a bigger HD and a fresh OS will help - whether its XP or Vista).

Thoughts?

Oh yes, and its a 2623-D9U if you want to see the details on lenovo's website. I couldnt find many specifics on the MB, chipsets and sockets :-/

Thanks
Kit

. not sure about the 200+gb drive, safely would be 120-160gb for the system to recognise all in one partition
. cpu upgrade doable, bios should be able to support it. Update to the latest one will not be so bad
. gpu: i doubt that you can swap it out

Thanks for the reply,

Any reason why it wouldnt be able to recognize 200+ GB?

which CPU's will fit? ive gotten different info from different sites. Ive read that the T2300 is a socket 479 and a socket M, if they are the same, then is the T7700, T7600, T7400 etc my only options?

If i were to use a gpu that was installed in a similar model, u think that would work?

Thanks in advance!

depending on the ability of the bios to support LBA (local block addressing). I m not sure about this model bios

many posts in the forums point to this direction

it is not so much about using another installed gpu on this model, but the fact that it is being soldered onto the board itself

Did a little research and i cant find anything on whether or not this BIOS supports LBA or not. I just updated to the most recent version: 2.2. Details on it are here:

Do you have a quick link for me as far as the processor bit goes? I searched the IBM area and didnt come up with much. Where else should i go looking?

GPU: understood, i was hoping they would make it more like a desktop - which is what i mainly worked on a while back... still learning about how notebooks are put together.

once again thanks for the info
