XPS2: Turn off LCD w/o closing lid? Trick into believing there's an external monitor?

Hello,

Does anyone know of a way to manually turn off the integrated display on my XPS Gen 2 without closing the lid? I thought Fn+F8 might work, but the display only turns off momentarily with it.

Perhaps there's a way to trick the notebook into thinking an external monitor is connected, such as jumping pins on the DVI or VGA connector? Or even better, a way to do this in software? I know that with an external display I can run one or the other or both, but without it there seems to be only one option.

Many thanks.

Go into Power Options and choose to turn off the monitor after x minutes.

Download Winbubble. http://unlockforus.blogspot.com/2007...-tips-and.html

In the general tab, there is an option to add a "monitor off" option to the context menu.
