I would personally recommend something along the lines of a WRT54G router by Linksys but for the most part, and mid-line router is something that should work fine for you.
I've used a netgear router, Dell router, and that linksys mentioned above and the above works best.

I have used linksys, netgear, belkin routers and i found that if your going to download a lot of stream media the bekin tends to drop the wireless so you can not see your lan computers. With the netgear i never had that issue but changing the settings on it can be a hassle it runs very slow web interface. as for linksys is it is a very stable product when its working but if it fails onces you better bet it will drop like a rock.
My personal choice is a netgear, because its software offers more options to customize my network and wan/lan.

i hate the low end netgear 614 series, have to manually reboot the machine once a week, and ive got 3 of them (different generations) so i know its just their hardware/software designs and not just the 1 that am having problems with
if you arent going N, then you can get a WRT54G, but try to get an older one (pre-v5) as you can install a 3rd party firmware (dd-wrt or tomato) and get much more performance and features. (some linksys N routers are supported by dd-wrt, but you will have to check-out which models - www.dd-wrt.com
