This suprise comes before the 55nm GT200b die shrink. It's aimed directly at the HD 4870.
|AMD's Radeon HD 4800 offensive resulted with a really hard hit to Nvidia's graphics card offer and today, even after some significant price cuts, the higher-end GeForce cards have a hard time battling the reddish Radeons. In an effort to better counter the RV770-powered cards Nvidia is now reported preparing an updated GeForce GTX 260.
Set to still feature 896 MB of GDDR3 memory and GPU, shader and memory clocks of 576, 1242 and 1998 MHz respectively, the new old GTX 260 will have an additional TPC (Texture Processing Cluster) and 216 Processing Cores, up from the current 192. This updated model is said to arrive around mid-September and will probably have the same price tag of the 'regular' GeForce GTX 260. Oh 55nm GT200, where art thou?
