Graphic Card Query

Thread Starter
I have been comparing graphic cards using notebookcheck and need some advice on the following

GeForce Go 7950 GTX

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...TX.2121.0.html

GeForce 8800m GTX

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...TX.8836.0.html

The 7950 GTX loses to the 8800M GTX on all the 3dmark tests yet the 7950 runs doom 3 at ultra settings at a much higher frame rate.

Could anyone explain why and would i be right in thinking as doom 3 is actually a game the better gaming card would be the one that scores higher on this?

I notice the 7950 is not a directx 10 card what would this mean? (for example will the 7950 run things already out better but in the long run the 8800m will do longer and run future games better)

Thanks

Doom 3 is a fairly "old" game so thus sometimes gfx cards will perform worse even though they are newer. Doom 3 FPS is really only useful for older and slower gfx cards to get an idea. You should use the FEAR fps since those will be more relevant. DirectX 10 is heavily hyped, but in all reality, you don't need it for a laptop. In Crysis for example, dx10 just makes it so you can go to higher details (which would lag the hell out of those 2 gfx cards). Plus, not many games support dx10's full "special" features. But easily the 8800m will pwn the 7950 gtx since nvidia really pulled out the stops with the 8-series (except for a few defects in the 84XX and 86XX series).
