I have an Inspiron 9300 (specs are in my signature), and I've been having a problem with the power connector. I'm currently on my 3rd power brick. The issue is when I plug the power brick in, the laptop doesn't recognize it unless I wiggle the cord around. Also, in the BIOS, under Device info, I get a message saying it can't recognize the power adapter type. This leads me to believe the issue is the DC jack on the motherboard. I called a local repair shop and they told me I either have to replace the board or get a new DC jack soldered on. Since a new board costs so much, and I know how to solder, I'd rather try the DC jack method first.
I guess my question is, has anyone here done this before? If so, how hard is it? Also, does anyone have any high resolution (or at least close up) pictures of the motherboard where the DC connector is? I really don't have the money right now to get a new laptop since that money is going towards building a new desktop, and I don't want to drop $300 for a new motherboard on a 3yr old laptop. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
