External Monitor Problems

Hey i have a lenovo t61p and i just recently bought a 22inch samsung lcd monitor to hook it up too. My laptops resolution is 1900 x 1200 but the monitor is 1680 x 1050. I thought it would be fine just switching resolutions to dual display on my laptop and the monitor but when i switch back and forth it messes things up on my desktop........for example things on my vista sidebar get cut in half when i switch back to just using my laptop screen.

Im going to get rid of this monitor and bump up to a 24 inch with a 1920 x 1200 resolution. Iwas wondering if this will fix the problem or is it my computor????

it is not your comp. it all depends on how the desktop remembers its last "main" settings, and laptops are not known for supporting dual monitors with dual resolution settings well.

just to clarify i want to display on my laptop monitor and my external monitor i bought.

also would it be better if i just displayed on my External monitor?

unless you use extended display mode, i recommend display on one monitor or the other, and not on both at the same time. Make sure that you set the option of doing nothing when lid closes, before toggling (Fn) to an external monitor from the laptop's lcd
