Slaving Secondary Laptop Hdd

Thread Starter
Hello all.
I have an ASUS M70Vm-X1 laptop with a primary 320gb hard drive which is factory partitioned with two separate 150GB partitions. There is a separate bay for a secondary HDD but when I install my secondary 120GB western Digital HDD it is not recognized in the system once booted up. However it IS recognized in the BIOS. What do I do?

I'm having a similar problem with my M70Vm-C1. It came from the factory with 2, 250GB HDD pre-installed, but the machine doesn't see the 2nd HDD. BIOS sees it, and I have physically seen it when I removed the cover, but the machine doesn't, and I keep getting "Low Memory" warnings, even though I have 500GB. I think this all occurred when I updated the BIOS to remedy the machine not coming out of sleep mode. I believe it was on 205, I should have just went to 207, but I went for the gusto and went for the latest, BIOS 210. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to dual boot the machine with Vista 32 and Win7 64, and I need to be able to see the 2nd HDD.

Does it show up under Disk Management in Windows? Sometimes it will be recognized but not mounted, so you would need to manually assign a drive letter to it in order to have access to it in Windows.

Dual-booting shouldn't be a problem since the BIOS recognizes it. I'd just pop in the Windows 7 disc and the second hard drive should show up as an option during the installation process.

That what I meant, I can see the 2nd HDD in BIOS ,but not in disk management. Wouldn't ASUS have configured it? I thought I use to see 4 drives, the 2 HDD being partioned equally into 125GB sections, now I only see the one partioned into two 125GB. The one is completely gone. So how would I go about doing this.

Do you have any unknown devices that show up in Device Manager?

No just the partioned C drive and the DVD/CD drive

Do you know of any way to revert back to an earlier BIOS? After researching it, looks like BIOS 210 might be at fault.

I haven't tried it myself, but one method I've heard about is to hit the reset hole/button with the end of a paper clip after removing the power cord and battery.

Do you also have to disconnect the CMOS battery as well? I tried this already hoping to reset the BIOS to the original version, but it didn't.

No, the CMOS battery only holds system settings and date & time, etc. The BIOS version and information is on the EEPROM chip and the only way I know to go back to an earlier version without sending it in to Asus is to hit the reset button like I described.
