Updating Drivers

Thread Starter
When I log into my account at Dell and lookup drivers for my Inspiron E1505 (Vista Premium) how come it says under compatibility for a specific driver it lists my E1505, but when you actually download the driver and begin the install my 1505 isn't in the list it shows?

Which is right the compatibility list on Dell's site or what is actually on the list when you begin the install?

On a related note I want to update my Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC so Vista's SP1 will be offered to my laptop. The current driver is a 6.10.0.5290 but Dell's website shows an updated driver 6.10.0.5343, A02 but also says Applies to: STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio. Is this driver update specific to the one I need for my E1505?

I've also noticed after running a free scan of DriverAlert it actually shows a different Sigma Tel driver update 6.10.5713.1 I'm assuming direct from the manufacturer, will Dells and the manufacturer's both work equally well or do you need to use Dells?

If your system is not suffering from any performance degradation, i would recommend leaving the drivers update alone. Using Vista, best is to use the drivers that are offered direct on dell's site or via vista update.

cheers ...
