I currently have
2 x 512mb pc2-4200s-444-12
core duo T2250 1.73/2m/533 possessor

Question is
can I upgrade to pc2-5300 ddr2-667 with my current possessor
also taking into consideration that i mite upgrade the cpu some day

How much ram can the Inspiron handle with the latest bios update
will i need a new psu to power such upgrades
feel free to fill me in on anything i'm missing here

I'm looking at some Mushkin pc2-5300 ddr2-667 2 x 1gb

Is all or most 5300 667 supported by newest bios
I found cheap ram made for imac can i use mac ram in a dell

All info and suggestions are appreciated

Thank you.

yes you can put the 667 Mhz Ram in your laptop and the max is 4 GB 2 x 2 GB SODIMMS.

Only 3.25 will be usuable but for the price of the memory these days go for it.

Cheers

I have never heard of pc5200 but PC5300 and PC5400 are the same, its just a difference of rounding.
DDR2 is backwards compatible so really, any 200-pin DDR2 memory you find will at least function.

Yes that one may have been a typo I picked up from somewhere

I figured out the rounding shorty after posting this

Its also good to know that any 200 pin DDR2 ram will most likely work

Also is there higher speed ram such as DDR2 800mhz for laptops

Thanks

Yes, although I am not sure where you can buy them from in Canada.

800mhz sticks won't run @ 800mhz however they will down clock to 667 or something like that and work just fine.

I think the highest CPU in the 9400 is the T7600.

The speed of RAM is merely the frequency the RAM is capable of running at. So, when you stick a 800 MHz memory chip into a 667 MHz bus the ram runs at 667 MHz.

I see so there's no point in buying RAM over 667 MHz

What should I pay for a T7600

Thanks

As for the ram, you should look for 667mhz ram and 800mhz ram and just buy whichever is cheaper
