My laptop still works fine for the most part but it's about 3 years old and only has a hiccup now and then but I'd like to have a fresh new install of XP. Unfortunately when I try to run the windows disc it stops pretty much right away and says that it can not find any hard drives at all. I have tried configuring the BIOS in a few different ways but 0 results. It just will not acknowledge any hard drives being present on the unit.
There are no clear signs of any components being faulty. As
I stated everything works fine. From the OD to HDD, card reader, etc. The thing works cherry.
I am very nervous about going ahead and manually resetting the CMOS or pulling the HDD and reformatting it in another pc. If the unit was not functioning I might try something more drastic but am definitely reserved as things stand.
What I'm hoping is there is some precidence of this. A commen failure? Perhaps some feature that AW puts on their units that makes it so you can not just reformat unless you know it? I would find this disappointing. I understand they are somewhat proprietary but are "supposed" to be closer to a custom build than something like a VIAO. I doubt this is the case and that it is more likely an actual component failure (mobo or hdd) or a corrupt CMOS.
Just hoping there might be something obvious or commen. Something I'm missing. I did a brief search of the forums and google with no results at all. Please feel free to castrate if it's right under my nose :P
Thanks,
