Toshiba portege 3480ct login problem

My friend was moving and he gave me an old toshiba portege 3480ct laptop.

the only problem is, is that i cant get into the computer because i don't know the user name and password. I have lost contact with the friend that gave it to me so he cant tell me what it is.

i was thinking of reinstalling windows 2000 on it but it doesn't have a cd-rom drive and my external one doesn't work with it.

can anyone help?
